Welcome to the official website of the Walking Pilgrimage to Martyrs' Shrine Midland, Canada

The Midland Walking Pilgrimage was born in the hearts of a small group of parishioners of St. Teresa's Church. They were looking for a way to connect spiritually with friends in Poland. One of the ideas was to organize a pilgrimage to the Shrine. It all started as a one-day car "pilgrimage", but on the way back someone asked if there were any volunteers for a walking pilgrimage. It has been 43 years since the first walking pilgrimage to the Shrine of the Canadian Martyrs. It was modeled on the walking pilgrimage that Poles undertake every year to Jasna Góra in Czestochowa.

The 1st Walking Pilgrimage to Midland was attended by 18 people. Three years later, a group from Kitchener and Cambridge joined. Today, the pilgrimage starts from six different cities in southern Ontario. All are on pilgrimage to the place of the first martyrs.

Spiritual Pilgrimage

It consists of spiritual participation in the Pilgrimage to Midland. Spiritual pilgrims do not go on the road, but remain at home and partially fulfill the pilgrimage program. The spiritual pilgrimage lasts 7 days. During this time, one should spiritually unite with the pilgrims and at least partially fulfill the religious practices carried out by the payers. The spiritual pilgrimage should include three main components of the retreat: formation, prayer and penance.
